Fayetteville was originally just a stagecoach stop on the Bastrop to San Felipe Trail in the very early 1800's. In the 1820's the area was settled by members of Stephen F. Austin's Colony and followed by German and then Czech immigrants, whose culture remains a dominant part of the town's history and heritage today.

You'll find over 340 structures in downtown Fayetteville that are on the National Register of Historic Places, and numerous Texas Historic Markers are within the city limits.
